- 1915: Publication of the twelve-volume series The Fundamentals: A Testimony To The Truth, a document of Fundamentalist Christianity that rejects higher criticism.
- 1917: Communist revolution in Russia establishes the Soviet Union, whose official religion is Atheism.
- 1917: Pope Benedict XV promulgates the Codex Iuris Canonici, which unifies the canon law of the Latin Rite into a single code.
- 1925: Scopes Trial upholds a Tennessee law (the Butler Act) prohibiting the teaching of evolution. The law was repealed in 1967.
- 1929: The Lateran Treaty estalishes the Vatican City, ending a dispute between Italy and the Roman Catholic Church over the temporal power of the Papacy.

- 1947: Discovery of the Dead Sea scrolls.

- 1983: Pope John Paul II introduces a revised version of Codex Iuris Canonici, the canon law pf the Latin Rite. This supersedes CIC1917 and includes the reforms introduced during and after the Second Vatican Council.
- 1993: Collapse of the Soviet Union.
- October 31,1999. The Lutheran World Federation and the Roman Catholic Church sign the Joint Declararion on the Docrine of Justification. Many Confessional Lutherans accuse the LWF of selling out the Protestant Reformation.
