Armenia is a country in Asia, east of Turkey and north of Iran. For most of the 20th century, Armenia was part of the Soviet Union. The principle language consists of two major dialects: Western Armenian and Eastern Armenian.

The Armenian alphabet was created by Saint Mesrop Mashtots in the early 5th Century A.D., primarily to translate the Bible into the Armenian language.
