God flooded the world to cleanse it of the wickedness of mankind (Genesis 6-9). Only Noah, his family and the creatures on the Ark were spared.

Some secular writers identify the Great Flood with a major flood of the Black Sea c. 5600 BC. This remains controversial, for secular opinion is usually influenced by Naturalism which includes a disregard for accounts of a God who created or destroyed life. The Genesis Flood account is supported by creationists.
