The New Testament was originally written in Koine (Common) Greek (except for some scattered phrases in Aramaic), and Koine Greek was also the liturgical language of Eastern Christianity. The New Testament writers often quoted from the Septuagint, which is a Koine Greek translation of the Old Testament.
