- 79. Titus Flavius Vespasianus succeeds his father Vespasian as Roman Emperor. Titus was the Roman general responsible for the destruction of Jerusalem in 70.
- 1537. The original seven members of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) are ordained at Venice by the bishop of Arbe.
- 1989. "Joint Commission of the Theological Dialogue between the Orthodox Church and the Oriental Orthodox Churches" addresses the 451 schism following the Council of Chalcedon. It is signed at Anba Bishoy Monastery in Wadi El-Natroun, Egypt.
