Panentheism (from the Greek words: pan, en and Theos, literally "God-in-all") is the view that God is immanent within all Creation or that God is the animating force within and behind the universe. However, unlike pantheism, panentheism does not equate the universe with God or suggest that there is no aspect of God beyond the universe itself. In panentheism, God maintains a transcendent character (separate and beyond the universe), and is viewed as both the creator and the original source of universal morality.

Panentheism, although not a new idea in itself, has come to be associated with Process theology, in which God is viewed as a finite being who is changing, attaining, and "in process," which happens to accord well with the Open theism concept in which God is "changing" as a result of man's free will choices in life.
