Saint

In modern usage, a saint is a righteous person; but the New Testament meaning seems to have been synonymous with "Christian." Different Christian traditions use the term differently. In Catholicism and the Orthodox Church, there is a formal process of canonization that decides posthumously which Christians are saints, and of which these saints are patrons of. Many Protestants believe that it is possible for a Christian to be a saint and a sinner at the same time: while our sins are forgiven, we continue to be tempted by sin.
