Seth was the third son of Adam and Eve, and the brother of Cain and Abel. Seth is first mentioned after the account of Cain's descendants in Genesis 4: "Adam knew his wife again. She gave birth to a son, and named him Seth, 'for God has appointed me another child instead of Abel, for Cain killed him.'" (Genesis 4:25 WEB). Seth is also called "a son in [Adam's] own likeness, after his image." (Genesis 5:3 WEB). Adam was 130 when Seth was born.

Seth gave birth to Enosh at the age of 105, and lived to be 912. (Genesis 5:6-8). Seth is also listed in Luke's geneology leading to Jesus Christ (Luke 3:23-38).

According to some interpretations, Seth was the ancestor of the Sons of God, while Cain was the ancestor of the Daughters of Men mentioned in Genesis 6: "It happened, when men began to multiply on the surface of the ground, and daughters were born to them, that God’s sons saw that men’s daughters were beautiful, and they took for themselves wives of all that they chose." (Genesis 6:1-2 WEB). This interpretation is not accepted by all Christians.
