[edit] Latter Day Saints?
Does this wiki consider those Latter Day Saints that consider themselves Christians to be Christians? (or in other words, can Latter Day Saint denominations be considered Christian denominations) --BenMcLean 15:04, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
- Unknown at this point, especially after the schism with ChristWiki. This discussion should be taken up at the "What is a Christian" page. Archola 13:33, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Orthodox Christianity?
I am probably wrong. But I thought that Orthodox Christianity was part of Catholocism. Since recent edits seem to suggest that it is not, could someone please briefly explain to me it's history and beliefs? --71.158.238.104 13:41, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- See Great Schism for when these church bodies became separate. Basically, Catholics accept the filioque clause of the Nicene Creed (that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and from the Son]], while Orthodox Christians believe that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father only. Also, Catholics believe that the Pope is Christ's vicar and the head of the church on Earth, while Orthodox Christians believe that their patriarchs have equal authority under apostolic succession.
The Pope and the Patriarch of Alexandria excommunicated each other in 1054. Since then, the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church have been separate church bodies. (The Oriental Orthodox and Assyrian Church of the East had broken away under earlier schisms.
The Orthodox Churches also have a slighly different view of Original sin than do Catholics and Protestants, since the Eastern churches were less inflienced by Augustine of Hippo than the Eastern churches were. Archola 16:03, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
