Theistic evolution is the belief that God used Evolution (as many but not all scientists understand the General Theory of Evolution) to create earth's biodiversity. It is, in a broader sense, not confined to any one religion, but rather refers to any religion which has a God figure that is responsible for creating the universe in some manner. It is seen, by both strict naturalists and strict creationists, to be an attempt at a compromise between extreme positions.
Creationists make two responses to this position: The General Theory of Evolution has serious scientific problems and has no significant scriptural support (being also irreconcilable with too many scriptures).
